BIOGRAPHY AT A GLANCE: Jeff Joseph has heard over 3000 mediations and arbitrations since 1983 in the areas of personal injury, property, employment, business/commercial, construction, education, environmental, agriculture and other assorted cases. From 1980-2006, Mr. Joseph was a trial lawyer with Caltrans where he tried million dollar and six-figure personal injury (highway dangerous condition), property, contract, employment and environmental cases. Based on his success in trial, Mr. Joseph was appointed Deputy Chief Counsel in charge of the San Diego Office where he supervised 17 lawyers and made all of the settlement/trial decisions from 1992-2006. Mr. Joseph has received numerous awards for his work as a trial lawyer and educator.
Beginning in 1990, Mr. Joseph became an Adjunct Professor of Law at Thomas Jefferson School of Law and later became Associate Dean and General Counsel where he served from 2006-2012. Professor Joseph ("ProJo") has taught Civil Procedure, Trial Practice, California Civil Procedure, Education Law, Environmental Law, American Legal History and Legal Writing.
Mr. Joseph is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley (A.B. 1969) and University of California Davis (J.D. 1972). For the first eight years of his career, Mr. Joseph practiced criminal law in the Criminal Section and Special Prosecutions Unit of the California Attorney General's Office. Mr. Joseph was the first San Diego Deputy Attorney General to be assigned to the San Diego District Attorney's Office where he tried numerous felony and misdemeanors as well as preliminary hearings grand jury proceedings.
Mr. Joseph has done over 200 appeals including cases in the United States Supreme Court, California Supreme Court and at least one division of every District Court of Appeal in California. Mr. Joseph is counsel of record or supervising attorney in 23 published opinions in criminal and civil cases, many involving significant constitutional issues.
